ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES@#To explore the relationship between atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and childhood asthma.@*METHODS@#This retrospective study included 86 children with asthma admitted to the Changzhou Second People's Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University from July 2020 to August 2022 as the asthma group and 149 healthy children undergoing physical examination during the same period as the control group. Metabolic parameters including total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and blood glucose, as well as general information of the children such as height, weight, body mass index, presence of specific dermatitis, history of inhalant allergen hypersensitivity, family history of asthma, and feeding history, were collected. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to study the relationship between AIP, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and asthma. The value of AIP, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol for predicting asthma was assessed using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.@*RESULTS@#The AIP and triglyceride levels in the asthma group were significantly higher than those in the control group, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol was significantly lower (P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference in total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol between the two groups (P>0.05). Before and after adjusting for height, weight, presence of specific dermatitis, history of inhalant allergen hypersensitivity, family history of asthma, feeding method, and blood glucose, multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that AIP, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were associated with asthma (P<0.05). ROC curve analysis showed that the optimal cutoff value for predicting asthma with AIP was -0.333, with a sensitivity of 80.2%, specificity of 55.0%, positive predictive value of 50.71%, and negative predictive value of 82.85%. The area under the curve (AUC) for AIP in predicting asthma was significantly higher than that for triglycerides (P=0.009), but there was no significant difference in AUC between AIP and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P=0.686).@*CONCLUSIONS@#AIP, triglycerides, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol are all associated with asthma. AIP has a higher value for predicting asthma than triglycerides and comparable value to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

ABSTRACT

Toxoplasma gondii ME49 infections are typically diagnosed by serological tests. However, serological diagnosis of RH strain-induced toxoplasmosis remains unknown. In order to develop seradiagnosis of above 2 kinds of infections, we generated recombinant virus-like particles (VLPs) displaying the T. gondii rhoptry protein 4 (ROP4) and evaluated their potential in T. gondii ME49 or RH strain infection diagnostics. Mice were orally infected with either the tachyzoites of T. gondii (RH) or cysts of T. gondii (ME49) at various dosages, and sera were collected at regular intervals. ELISA-based serological tests were performed to assess IgG, IgM, and IgA antibody responses against ROP4 VLP antigen and tissue lysate antigen (TLA). Compared to TLA, IgG, IgM, and IgA levels to ROP4 VLP antigen were significantly higher in the sera of T. gondii RH-infected mice 1 and 2 week post-infection (PI). T. gondii-specific IgG antibody was detected at 1, 2, 4, and 8 week PI in the T. gondii ME49-infected mice with infection dose-dependent manner. These results indicated that the ROP4 VLP antigen was highly sensitive antigens detecting T. gondii RH and ME49 antibodies at an early stage.

ABSTRACT

Taking Lonicerae Japonicae Flos as an example, the method of "expert consensus of different regions" was used to screen the representative samples and evaluate their commodity grades. The correlation analysis, hierarchical cluster analysis and partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA) of "commodity grade-appearance characteristic-component content" were carried out to reveal the scientificity of traditional commodity grade of Chinese medicinal material. By referring to the existing literature and the grade investigation from the sample collection regions, 78 "initial grade" samples were screened out from 118 collected samples. Authoritative experts from four regions(n=4) including Linyi(Shangdong province), Bozhou(Anhui province), Anguo(Hebei province) and Beijing were organized to evaluate their commodity grades, separately. Based on the grade consistency rate(R_i≥70%), 69 "local grade" samples were screened out from the "initial grade" samples. Based on the average grade consistency rate ■ "authoritative grade" samples were screened out from the "local grade" samples, including15 first-grade samples, 9 second-grade samples, 11 third-grade samples and 17 fourth-grade samples. For these "authoritative grade" samples, the main appea-rance characteristics were quantified and the contents of 13 components were determined by ultra performance liquid chromatography(UPLC). Furthermore, the total contents of 6 phenolic acids, 4 flavonoids and 3 iridoids were calculated, respectively. The results of correlation analysis showed that 4 appearance characteristics indices were correlated with the commodity grades: color, rate of yellow bars(including blooming flowers), rate of black heads(including black bars), and rate of stems and leaves(including bud debris). Five component content indices were correlated with the commodity grades: chlorogenic acid, isochlorogenic acid C, sweroside, loganin and the total contents of six phenolic acids. Furthermore, chlorogenic acid, loganin and the total contents of six phenolic acids showed significantly negative correlation with the main appearance characteristics, indicating that the appearance characteristics of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos can reflect its internal quality, and these 3 indices can be used as quality markers(Q-markers). The results of hierarchical cluster analysis showed that the samples of four grades were classified into four categories, and the samples with the same grades and the same categories accounted for 80.8% of the total samples, while the samples with the different grades were obviously classified into different categories. The results of PLS-DA analysis showed that the samples of different grades showed obvious intragroup aggregation and intergroup dispersion. The above results indicated that it was feasible to evaluate the traditional commodity grade of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos by the method of "expert consensus of different regions". For the evaluation of traditional commodity grade of Chinese medicinal material, the samples should be representative, expert conclusions should have enough consensuses, and grade determination should be authoritative. As the crystallization of clinical experience, traditional commodity grade can scientifically reflect the internal quality of Chinese medicinal material.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#Many Parkinson disease (PD) patients complain about chronic fatigue and sleep disturbances during the night. The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between fatigue and sleep disturbances by using polysomnography (PSG) in PD patients.@*METHODS@#Two hundred and thirty-two PD patients (152 with mild fatigue and 80 with severe fatigue) were recruited in this study. Demographic information and clinical symptoms were collected. Fatigue severity scale (FSS) was applied to evaluate the severity of fatigue, and PSG was conducted in all PD patients. FSS ≥4 was defined as severe fatigue, and FSS <4 was defined as mild fatigue. Multivariate logistic regression and linear regression models were used to investigate the associations between fatigue and sleep disturbances.@*RESULTS@#Patients with severe fatigue tended to have a longer duration of disease, higher Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale score, more advanced Hoehn and Yahr stage, higher daily levodopa equivalent dose, worse depression, anxiety, and higher daytime sleepiness score. In addition, they had lower percentage of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (P = 0.009) and were more likely to have REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) (P = 0.018). Multivariate logistic regression analyses found that the presence of RBD and proportion of REM sleep were the independent predictors for fatigue. After the adjustment of age, sex, duration, body mass index, severity of disease, scores of Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, and other sleep disorders, proportion of REM sleep and degree of REM sleep without atonia in patients with PD were still associated with FSS score.@*CONCLUSION@#Considering the association between fatigue, RBD, and the altered sleep architecture, fatigue is a special subtype in PD and more studies should be focused on this debilitating symptom.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the water soluble chemical constituents in rhizoma of Acorus tatarinowii and transformation pathway of nucleosides in the process of water extraction. Method:Compounds were isolated and purified by column chromatography on macroporous resin,Sephadex LH-20,ODS and preparative HPLC. Their structures were identified on the basis of physicochemical properties and spectral data. Nucleosides were identified from aqueous extract of A. tatarinowii, and their stability was investigated by HPLC. The possible transformation pathways of nucleosides in aqueous extract of A. tatarinowii were studied by nucleotide addition test. Result:Eleven compounds including four nucleosides, four phenylpropanoids, two alkaloids and a furfural were isolated, and identified as uridine(1),adenine(2),guanosine(3),adenosine(4),5-hydroxymethylfurfural(5),5-(hydroxymethyl)-1H-pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde(6),(threo)1',2'-dihydroxyasarone(7),(erythro)1',2'-dihydroxyasarone(8),acoraminol A(9),acoraminol B(10),and tatarine A(11). The chromatographic peaks of compounds 1-4 and cytidine were identified from aqueous extract of A. tatarinowii by HPLC. After ultrasonic extraction for 0.5 h,the stability of nucleosides in water was poor. After ultrasonic extraction for 3 h or refluxing extraction for 0.5 h,the stability of nucleosides in water was good. Four transformation pathways including 5'-cytidylic acid→cytidine, uridine monophosphate→uridine, guanosine monophosphate, guanosine and adenosine-5'-monophosphate,adenosine 5'-diphosphate,adenosine 5'-triphosphorate,adenosine,adenine might exist in water extract of A. tatarinowii. Conclusion:Compounds 1-4 and 6 were isolated from the genus Acorus for the first time. These compounds further enriched the chemical constituents of A. tatarinowii. The stability and transformation pathway of nucleosides in A. tatarinowii provides reference data for the analysis of nucleosides in A. tatarinowii and other traditional Chinese medicine.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify novel plasma biomarkers for distinguishing nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients from healthy individuals who have positive Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) viral capsid antigen (VCA-IgA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred seventy-four plasma cytokines were analyzed by a Cytokine Array in eight healthy individuals with positive EBV VCA-IgA and eight patients with NPC. Real-time polymerase chain reaction, Western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and immunohistochemistry were employed to detect the expression levels of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and CC chemokine ligand 3 (CCL3) in NPC cell lines and tumor tissues. Plasma MIF and CCL3 were measured by ELISA in 138 NPC patients, 127 EBV VCA-IgA negative (VN) and 100 EBV VCA-IgA positive healthy donors (VP). Plasma EBV VCA-IgA was determined by immunoenzymatic techniques. RESULTS: Thirty-four of the 174 cytokines varied significantly between the VP and NPC group. Plasma MIF and CCL3 were significantly elevated in NPC patients compared with VN and VP. Combination of MIF and CCL3 could be used for the differential diagnosis of NPC from VN cohort (area under the curve [AUC], 0.913; sensitivity, 90.00%; specificity, 80.30%), and combination of MIF, CCL3, and VCA-IgA could be used for the differential diagnosis of NPC from VP cohort (AUC, 0.920; sensitivity, 90.00%; specificity, 84.00%), from (VN+VP) cohort (AUC, 0.961; sensitivity, 90.00%; specificity, 92.00%). Overexpressions of MIF and CCL3 were observed in NPC plasma, NPC cell lines and NPC tissues. CONCLUSION: Plasma MIF, CCL3, and VCA-IgA combination significantly improves the diagnostic specificity of NPC in high-risk individuals.

ABSTRACT

BackgroundRapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are the most common sleep disorders in Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of this study was to identify whether RBD could alleviate OSA severity in PD patients and its effect on cognitive impairment.

MethodsFrom February 2014 to May 2017, we recruited 174 PD patients from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, all of whom underwent polysomnography (PSG). We collected clinical data, PSG results, and compared information between patients with and without RBD or OSA by analysis of covariance. We also investigated the effect of these sleep disorders on cognitive impairment using linear regression.

ResultsWe grouped participants as follows: PD only (n = 53), PD + OSA (n = 29), PD + RBD (n = 61), and PD + RBD + OSA (n = 31). Minimum oxygen saturation (SaO) during whole sleep and in REM sleep was higher in PD + RBD + OSA patients than that in PD + OSA patients. PD + RBD patients had worse Mini-Mental Status Examination and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores than those in the PD group (P < 0.001), especially in visuospatial/executive, attention, and memory functions. The PD + OSA group performed worse than the PD group in the delayed recall domain. After adjusting for age, sex, body mass index, education, disease severity, and other sleep disorders, MoCA was negatively associated with OSA (β = -0.736, P = 0.043) and RBD (β = -2.575,P < 0.001). The severity of RBD (tonic/phasic electromyography activity) and OSA (apnea-hypopnea index/oxygen desaturation index/minimum SaO) were also associated with MoCA. The adjusted β values of RBD-related parameters were higher than that for OSA.

ConclusionsWe found that RBD alleviated OSA severity; however, RBD and OSA together exacerbated PD cognitive impairment. Further studies are needed to evaluate whether OSA treatment can improve cognition in PD.

ABSTRACT

Using stakeholder involvement analysis to analyze the appeal, position, power and role of stakehold-ers involved in the creation of the no-fault compensation system of medical damage, this paper believes that the gov-ernment,including the health administrative department, is the concrete maker and the important facilitator of the policy implementation, which needs to take advantage of the public power to predominate the creation and trial opera-tion of the system;the medical staffs, patients and their families are the direct beneficiary of the policy, but it is nec-essary to ensure the good operation of the system by establishing diversified financing channels and setting reasonable compensation scope. The judicial appraisal institution and the expert group are the important guarantors of the policy implementation, but the authentication system should be unified and the expert group evaluation mechanism should be introduced. The insurance industry is an important propellant of policy implementation, but it needs to increase its participation by taking measures, such as expanding financing channels. The news media has an important influence on the making and implementation of the policy and should be properly guided to play its positive role.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Estrogen can promote the osteogenic differentiation of human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs), but the molecular mechanism is unclear. OBJECTIVE:To study the regulatory effect of estrogen on the osteogenic differentiation of hPDLSCs via Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. METHODS: The hPDLSCs were isolated and purified by digestion method combined with limited dilution clone method. Three experimental groups were set as follows: osteogenic induction only (control group); 1×10-7mol/L estrogen with osteogenic induction (estrogen group); and 100 μg/L Wnt3a protein with osteogenic induction (Wnt3a group). Alkaline phosphatase activity was detected at 1, 3, 5, 7 days of osteogenic induction. Western blot was used to detect the expression of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway related proteins β-catenin, P-GSK-3β, GSK-3β, CyclinD1 and osteoblast-related proteins Runx2 and OCN after 7 days of osteogenic induction. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The activity of ALP in all groups increased with time. The expression level of ALP in the estrogen group and Wnt3a group was higher than that in the control group at 1, 3, 5 and 7 days of induction (P < 0.05), while there was no significant difference between the former two groups (P > 0.05). The western blot results showed that the expression levels of β-catenin, P-GSK-3β, CyclinD1, Runx2 and OCN in the estrogen group and Wnt3a group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05), while the expression of GSK-3β was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). But there were no differences in the expression of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway related proteins and mid-late osteogenic markers between estrogen group and Wnt3a group (P > 0.05). To conclude, estrogen can enhance the osteogenic differentiation of hPDLSCs, and the underlying mechanism is likely to activate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in activated hPDLSCs exposed to estrogen.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Preliminary studies have found that the oral intake of contraceptives reduces the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. This study mainy explores the effects of oral contraceptives on periodontium remodeling during orthodontic tooth movement in a female rat model. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of combined oral contraceptives (COCs) on the expression levels of progesterone receptor and osteoprotegerin, as well as the number of osteoclasts in the periodontium during orthodontic tooth movement. METHODS: Eighty 3-month-old female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into two groups (n=40 per group), and COCs (marvelon, experimental group) or normal saline (control group) was then given by gavage. At 7 days after administration, the right maxillary first molars were moved mesially under a force of 50 g delivered by nickel-titanium coil springs, and 10 rats were killed on day 7, 14, 21 and 28 after loading, respectively. The expression levels of progesterone receptor and osteoprotegerin in the periodontium were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the number of activated osteoclasts was measured by tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: At 28 days after force loading, the expression level of progesterone receptor in the periodontium in the experimental group (0.307±0.03) was significantly higher than that in the control group (0.194±0.11), (P < 0.01). The number of osteoclasts in the maxillary first molars in the experimental group was significantly less than that in the control group at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after force loading (P < 0.05). The average absorbance value of osteoprotegerin in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.01). These results show that COCs are able to promote osteogenesis and slow bone absorption during periodontal reconstruction, indicating that the course of orthodontic treatment for female patients with a history of COCs intake may be extended.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the possible molecular mechanism for alpha(α)-mangostin's inhibition of the proliferation and apoptosis of human gastric cancer cells. Methods Human gastric adenocarcinoma SGC7901 cell line was treated with α-mangostin.CCK8 method was used to measure the viability of SGC7901 cells. The effect of α-mangostin on apoptosis and cell cycle was determined by immune fluorescence and flow cytometry. The expression of the relevant proteins was detected using Western blot. The shapiro-wilk test was performed for evaluation of deviation from normality.Normally distributed data was analyzed with one-way ANOVA.Welch test was used in data with heterogeneity of variance and multiple compared by Games-Howell test after that. Results CCK8 results showed that cell viability differed significantly among groups treated with different concentrations of α-mangostin(10,15,20,25,and 30 μmol/L)(P<0.05).QPCR data showed that the concentration of α-mangostin was positively correlated with mRNA level of LC 3 but not caspase protein(r=0.976,P<0.05).In 15 μmol/L but not 10 μmol/L α-mangostin treatment system, the autophagy inhibitors 3-MA(10 μmol/L),bafilomycin A(10 μmol/L)and LY294002(10 μmol/L)could significantly alleviate α-mangostin's killing effect on SGC7901 cells(P<0.05).Conclusion The anti-tumor effects of α-mangostin against human gastric adenocarcinoma cells in vitro can be partly attributed to apoptosis, autophagy and arresting cell phase.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Surgeries on maxillary sinus carcinoma, soft palate carcinoma, tonsillar cancer and other malignant tumors and surgical trauma are known to cause mandibular defects. Patients with mandibular defects usually present with chewing, swallowing and speech dysfunction and imperfect facial appearance. It is difficult to repair mandibular defects in the maxillofacial surgery.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of fixed bite plate combined with intermaxillary traction screw in the repair of mandibular defects with free fibular flap.METHODS: Seventy-five patients with mandibular defects reconstructed using free fibular flap in the Affiliated Stomatological Medical Hospital of Southwest University of Medical Sciences from June 2014 to December 2015 were enrolled, and were than randomized to two groups: 44 patients subjected to the bite plate combined with intermaxillary traction screw served as experimental group, and the others received intermaxillary traction using dental arch splint as control group. The operation time, wound healing at donor and accepting site, the survival rate of fibular flap, facial appearance, occlusion, functional speech and complications were compared between two groups.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The mean operation time showed significant difference between the experimental ((9.1±1.7) hours) and control ((10.2±2.1) hours) groups (P < 0.05). There were significant differences in the facial appearance (38 vs. 20), occlusion (41 vs. 22), and functional speech (39 vs. 21) between experimental and control groups (P < 0.05). The all-complication rate and the rate of maxillofacial wound dehiscence in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). These results suggest that the bite plate combined with intermaxillary traction screw is simple and effective accompanied by less complications in the repair of mandibular defects.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDBoth Parkinson's disease (PD) and multiple system atrophy (MSA) have associated sleep disorders related to the underlying neurodegenerative pathology. Clinically, MSA with predominant parkinsonism (MSA-P) resembles PD in the manifestation of prominent parkinsonism. Whether the amount of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep without atonia could be a potential marker for differentiating MSA-P from PD has not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to examine whether sleep parameters could provide a method for differentiating MSA-P from PD.

METHODSThis study comprised 24 MSA-P patients and 30 PD patients, and they were of similar age, gender, and REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) prevalence. All patients underwent clinical evaluation and one night of video-polysomnography recording. The tonic and phasic chin electromyogram (EMG) activity was manually quantified during REM sleep of each patient. We divided both groups in terms of whether they had RBD to make subgroup analysis.

RESULTSNo significant difference between MSA-P group and PD group had been found in clinical characteristics and sleep architecture. However, MSA-P patients had higher apnea-hypopnea index (AHI; 1.15 [0.00, 8.73]/h vs. 0.00 [0.00, 0.55]/h, P = 0.024) and higher tonic chin EMG density (34.02 [18.48, 57.18]% vs. 8.40 [3.11, 13.06]%, P < 0.001) as compared to PD patients. Subgroup analysis found that tonic EMG density in MSA + RBD subgroup was higher than that in PD + RBD subgroup (55.04 [26.81, 69.62]% vs. 11.40 [8.51, 20.41]%, P < 0.001). Furthermore, no evidence of any difference in tonic EMG density emerged between PD + RBD and MSA - RBD subgroups (P > 0.05). Both disease duration (P = 0.056) and AHI (P = 0.051) showed no significant differences during subgroup analysis although there was a trend toward longer disease duration in PD + RBD subgroup and higher AHI in MSA - RBD subgroup. Stepwise multiple linear regression analysis identified the presence of MSA-P (β = 0.552, P < 0.001) and RBD (β = 0.433, P < 0.001) as predictors of higher tonic EMG density.

CONCLUSIONTonic chin EMG density could be a potential marker for differentiating MSA-P from PD.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDParkinson's disease (PD) patients with long-term levodopa (L-DOPA) treatment are suffering from severe circadian dysfunction. However, it is hard to distinguish that the circadian disturbance in patients is due to the disease progression itself, or is affected by L-DOPA replacement therapy. This study was to investigate the role of L-DOPA on the circadian dysfunction in a rat model of PD.

METHODSThe rat model of PD was constructed by a bilateral striatal injection with 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA), followed by administration of saline or 25 mg/kg L-DOPA for 21 consecutive days. Rotarod test, footprint test, and open-field test were carried out to evaluate the motor function. Striatum, suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), liver, and plasma were collected at 6:00, 12:00, 18:00, and 24:00. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to examine the expression of clock genes. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine the secretion level of cortisol and melatonin. High-performance liquid chromatography was used to measure the neurotransmitters. Analysis of variance was used for data analysis.

RESULTSL-DOPA alleviated the motor deficits induced by 6-OHDA lesions in the footprint and open-field test ( P < 0.01, P < 0.001, respectively). After L-DOPA treatment, Bmal1 decreased in the SCN compared with 6-OHDA group at 12:00 ( P < 0.01) and 24:00 ( P < 0.001). In the striatum, the expression of Bmal1, Rorα was lower than that in the 6-OHDA group at 18:00 (P < 0.05) and L-DOPA seemed to delay the peak of Per2 to 24:00. In liver, L-DOPA did not affect the rhythmicity and expression of these clock genes (P > 0.05). In addition, the cortisol secretion was increased (P > 0.05), but melatonin was further inhibited after L-DOPA treatment at 6:00 (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONSIn the circadian system of advanced PD rat models, circadian dysfunction is not only contributed by the degeneration of the disease itself but also long-term L-DOPA therapy may further aggravate it.

ABSTRACT

Objective Under the methodology of differential proteomics and bioinformatics, the impact of the exogenous gene on the expression of rice in the proteome is discussed, aiming to explore into the study of genetically modified rice in the proteomics. Methods The total protein was extracted from genetically modified rice Huahui No.1(HH1) and non-transgenic rice Minghui 63 (MH63),the method of two-dimensional gel electrophoresis was applied to generate corresponding proteome two-dimensional poly?acrylamide gel(2D-PAGE)electrophoresis spectrum;then, the mass spectrometry and bioinformatics analysis were conducted after the selection of protein spots with significant differences. Results The comparing and matching of protein spots between transgenic Bt (cry1Ab/1Ac)rice and non-transgenic rice 2D-PAGE profiles identified 28 protein spots with significant differences. With non-trans?genic rice as a reference, transgenic Bt rice held 18 relatively high and 10 relatively low expressions;mass spectrometry and bioinfor?matics retrieval were made on the different protein spots. It was found that the differentiated protein was mainly involved in energy me?tabolism, protein synthesis, redox stress response and other biological processes. Conclusion Differences exist between transgenic Bt HH1 and its parental rice MH63 on the expression of proteome;however, there are neither anti-nutritional and allergenic protein, nor new or toxic proteins among these differentiated proteins.
